About Papa Gino's
— Our Story
From a single pizza kitchen in Massachusetts to a beloved household name across the United States, papa gino's has been crafting authentic Italian-American flavors for over six decades.
The papaginos Journey Begins
It started with a single question: what makes a perfect pizza? In 1961, Michael Valerio opened the first Papa Gino's in East Boston with nothing but a wood-fired oven, fresh ingredients, and an unshakeable belief that food made with love always tastes better.
Today, papaginos continues that same tradition across the United States — serving hand-tossed pizzas, hearty pastas, and family recipes that have been perfected over generations. Every dish we serve carries the soul of that original East Boston kitchen.

Six Decades of papa gino's
From a humble East Boston pizzeria to an iconic American brand — here are the milestones that shaped Papa Ginos.
The First Pizza Oven
Michael Valerio opens the very first Papa Gino's location in East Boston, Massachusetts. The secret? A family tomato sauce recipe brought over from Naples and hand-tossed dough made fresh every morning.
First Expansion
Demand grows beyond East Boston. Papa Ginos opens its first five additional locations across Greater Boston, introducing the iconic red-and-white checkered tablecloth dining experience to thousands of new fans.
A New England Institution
With over 50 locations across New England, Papa Gino's is named "Best Pizza Chain" by Boston Magazine. The brand becomes synonymous with Friday night pizza nights for families across the region.
Menu Innovation
Papa Ginos introduces its beloved pasta lineup — baked ziti, lasagna, and chicken parmigiana — expanding beyond pizza to become a full Italian-American dining destination loved by the whole family.
Going Digital
Papaginos launches online ordering — one of the first regional pizza chains to embrace digital ordering. Customers can now place orders from their computers, transforming convenience for busy families nationwide.
A New Chapter
Under fresh leadership and a renewed commitment to quality, Papa Ginos opens its 100th location and launches a revamped menu featuring locally sourced seasonal ingredients — honoring 63 years of authentic flavor.
